Biography:
Ghassan Shakaa is the mayor of Nablus since October 2012 one of the largest cities in the West Bank. Another former Nablus mayor Bassam Shaka is his uncle. Shakaa was appointed to his position by Yasser Arafat. His brother was assassinated by a still unknown group. Shakaa published an open letter in which he called for the Palestinian National Authority to restore order to his politically divided city.
