Wilfrid Simmonds

Wilfrid Mylchreest Simmonds, MBE (19 December 1889 – 2 January 1967) was an Australian politician. Born in Cairns, Queensland, he was educated at Mulgrave before becoming a sugar cane grower. After serving in the military 1917–1919, he sat on Mulgrave Shire Council. At the 1949 federal election, he was elected to the Senate as a Country Party candidate. His term began on 22 February 1950 and ended with a double dissolution on 19 March 1951; he was not re-endorsed at the 1951 election. Simmonds was appointed MBE in 1961 and died in Babinda in 1967.
